The seller:
Painting, oil on canvas. Signed "henri matisse". It measures 30"x 36". I bought this painting in 1970 at a estate sale of a very well known brain surgeon in calif. I do not know if it is an authentic matisse, or not. I had a friend who is an amature art appraiser look at it, but he told me, he couldn't tell me if it was, or wasn't as he knew nothing of matisse's work. He did say that even if it were a copy, it would be worth as much $20,000.00 to $25,000.00 as it is a very well done piece of art. He told me this back in 1989. I have never taken the painting in to be appraised, or authenticated. It has only 1 small hole in it. If you have any questions feel free to call 702-260-1900. Please only the very seriously interested!!!!!

Expertise
I did try to get an opinion on this painting in Paris but since they charge a minimum charge of 4000 Euro without any guarantee of the outcome I decided to leave it up to the Ebay community.
artfakes.dk:
Save your 4000 Euro, it’s worth at most 200.
The style is far away from Braque's, and it doesn’t look like Picasso.
More like the great art swindler Eric I. Spoutz from Detroit as a young man.

The seller: art-moderne (159), Power seller, Beverly Hills, CA, USA. Feedback Score: 159:
1) ORIGINAL PICASSO SIGNED GOUACHE PAINTING w/ PROVENANCE
This auction is for a striking and beautiful water-based GOUACHE PAINTING of one of Picasso's most popular subjects during his time in the south of France in the 1940s and 50s: namely, a faun, in this case playing a flute. This subject has appeared in a number of other paintings, drawings and lithographs by the great artist over the years.
The background color is a vivid yellow gouache with the lines of the faun sketched with the brush in black gouache paint. 2) The brush-signed SIGNATURE, "Picasso", attributed to Pablo Ruiz Picasso, (1881-1973), is in the same black gouache paint. The painting was removed from its frame for examination and photography and has been re-framed as shown. It will ship to the winning bidder in the frame.
The paper size is: 10 1/2" x 8 1/8". The size of the frame (outer dimensions) is: 23" x 20 1/2". The paper is quite old but in GOOD CONDITION apart from the two dog-eared corners on the right side. This is an ORIGINAL PAINTING and NOT a litho, print or other reproduction.
3) There is PROVENANCE for this work. Serious bidders are invited to e-mail us for this information. This is a NO RESERVE auction with a very reasonable start price for a painted work of this kind.
